& I'd considered using just the trays without the wooden trays to make it lighter. So it wouldn't over work the motor.

I bet you'd have to be careful with egg distribution if you set less than a full load. I'd start at the center and work out, spreading across all shelves, to further reduce load on the motor.dragasn I'm not sure how you could use these trays with out a shelf under them. They aren't that strong. But I think that would be a great idea if you had heavier built trays. I have four shelves that hold two thirty egg trays each for a total capacity of 240 eggs. That small motor is working great at this point but it's just hard to believe it will turn that many eggs. I think it's less about the number of eggs and more to do with a lack of resistance in the shelf pivot point and the lack of leverage in the shelf design. I have it only one tray wide so it's a long narrow shelf that sits over the 1/2" conduit pivot
