bot flys are pretty common, sadly. My rabbit had one before and had to have it cut out at the vets. Icky nasty things!

The eggs hatch quickly with sensed body heat, burrow into the animal or are injested. Yes they can get huge! This one was caught very early because my dog was licking/chewing the spot. Made himself a nasty mat and when I clipped it off found the bot fly under.
