We call them landmines at our house... It doesn't matter if they are in the house (backdoor on floor rug), in the grass, on the concrete... and my husband is normally the one who finds them...

blank-i-dee-blank... Four letter word... dog's name... four letter word, blank-i-dee-blank another dogs name... Honey I stepped in *^&$... four letter word--dogs name!

I always tell him to turn on the light before heading out the back door in the morning when we have a night of rain and he insisted that the dogs are not kenneled for the night... That's what he gets for being Mr. (AHHH but honey, it's raining do they have to stay in their kennels) Nice Guy.

I love him dearly, but some times...Pow stright to the Moon!

I have a friend who walks her two Scotties on leash under an umbrella to the grassy "do-do" area when it is rainy.

My own ECS will do her thing on the wet porch or the path, but not on the wet grass. Rainy mornings I have literally thrown her out onto the porch so she does not deposit in the house. The other ECS could care less, love the smells out in the wet grass.

OMG - I WISH my two big boys would stay out of the mud. Papa Bear is afraid of lightening but when its all over they both run in the mud and even lay in it. I would love to let them in the house and I have even washed their feet in a bucket of water and let them in if the rest of their body is not dirty, but they like to roll in the dirt too much. Dirty dogs. In my house the landmines are hairballs from the cats.

I had a labrador/Great Dane mix that was indeed part of my soul, I still miss her. She only lived for ten years, but she was the best dog I have ever owned. HOWEVER, she hated water for the first seven years of her life. Refused to go swimming, or walk along the beach- (where the waves bring water up to 'get you') nothing to do with it. One COLD fall day, when she was seven years old, we were walking around the pond at the park. She spotted geese in the middle of the pond- and something in her head clicked, and she took off for the middle of the pond- yanked me right into the ice cold water- and she kept on going. Of course the geese just flew off and she swam back to me. She loved going swimming after that.

However, she never would go outside if it was raining. She would hold it all day long. If it was still raining in the evening, she would bolt out there, pee and run right back to the door.

The Golden we have now was afraid of the dark for his first year. Refused to leave the back door if it was dark. You had to walk out to the middle of the yard with him. If you didn't, he was NOT budging. Now he will go out in the dark, but if the grass is more than an inch tall, he does his business on the concrete drive. He only uses the driveway if the grass needs to be cut. Keep in mind, this is a HUNTING dog- trained to hunt geese. lol lol lol. He has NO problem running through brush- just wont use it to go potty.

AND my QUEEN Wiener dog- ha! So much as a sprinkle, and she isn't going outside. Gives me a dirty look that says, "Turn off the &^%$ sprinkler!".She will NOT Go out there. If I pick her up and put her out the door, she will camp out next to the door and not move until I let her in. She thinks anything on the floor (shoes, dirty clothes, papers the cat knocks off the table, etc) works great as a potty place- so I have to keep right on her. Give her a chance to wander off, then I have to go poop-hunting.

Dogs!

Our spoiled-a$$..queen of the house..gets more love and attention than I do.. dachshund won't go in the BACK yard when it's raining. She prances herself to the FRONT door where my DH has taught her there is a large overhang and a dry area.

How about this for a dilemma? I have a now, 160lb mastiff , Fergus, that will NOT go outside in the morning to go potty unless I drag my tired butt outta bed and go stand on the porch and watch for the boogie man or the psychotic, barn cat, GSP that lives under the house and comes barreling out to snarl at him right when he is in mid-poop! He used to go to the back of the property to do his business, or over by the evil neighbors fence, but after a few times of her charging out, he now doesnt want to leave the porch!. If its raining, he will hold it allll day, until a break in the rain and then he will run out and go and then run back in like the hounds of he-- are after him.
War dog my left ear!

My dogs are so strange, when its thundering and lightning outside, they will literally growl and bark at it,and these are NOT young dogs, their really old to tell you the truth.
when there were some fires,we had to bring them in so they wouldnt die or anything, but after that when we let them, they wont go out, ecspecially, our lab,the oldest, she just sits there like shes all innocent, even though she isnt,i mean she steals all the other dogs food!
the one who is innocent is our st. bernard/mass. mix.except when he slimes you and jumps on you when hes been sprayed by a skunk!!lol
they are just weird in somany ways!

Growing up we had a small mixed spaniel dog that was dumped by our house. We took her in and had her about 12 years before she passed. Anyway, my "macho" dad always pretended not to "love" that dog. Well if it rained or snowed my dad would CARRY her to the truck and DRIVE her to the huge hay barn to do her business so her feet wouldn't get wet. Poor dad will never live that down.
