It's been a while since I posted on here, I have a boarder collie mix, she's about 2 or 3 years old. I've been trying to treat her and get rid of the flea's, I use hartz flea and tick shampoo, and another hartz flea and shampoo with oatmeal in it, the one with oatmeal seems to work best, but she still comes out of the bath itchy shes nearly rubbed out all the fur on her face, her legs look like poodle legs because shes pulled out the hair, and on her back is balding as well, and chest area, we finally got the fleas undercontrol with the hartz flea drops, I found out the hartz was causing issues with the skin and even can cause death. I've been putting deodorant on her legs to keep her from chewing on them, my dad's friend said to put deodorant on his dogs surgical site where he got fixed. That seems to help her until it wears off, I didn't want to use the hartz shampoos on her, is there any other good shampoo I can use on her, I heard Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo helps, or mane and tail, I can't get something overly expensive my budget is about .. 4 to 5 dollars. We had used Head and Shoulders on one of the shelties we used to have, because she was allergic to her own dandruff. What can I do to help her poor girl is so itchy. Also how long do I need to wait to give her a bath after using the hartz flea and tick drops? It's been since about monday or tuesday. also her ears are going bald as well from scratching. I'm beginning to believe it started out as fleas, then started using the hartz shampoo's and that made it worse, but I don't know!

My silly goofball, Sugar. That was before she pulled all of her hair out.

Does she have a flea allergy? One of my dogs does and she itches for a month after getting fleas, my vet says to use tea tree oil and any quality shampoo for sensitive skin with oatmeal in it. Idk about the drops my dogs eat a pill and it keeps them away for a couple months.

I have no clue if she has a flea allergy, I'd take her to see a vet if I could, me and my dad assume shes allergic to her own dandruff. So far the fleas are gone, tempted to just use dawn if they come back, I think hartz has been doing more bad than good.

She probably does have a flea allergy, it's not that uncommon. There really isn't anything you can do if it is. Just try to keep fleas away so she doesnt have to deal with them again, Help her not scratch, a cone could keep her from scratching her ears and biting to itch, I would be afraid dawn would dry her skin out and make her itchier.

The fleas are gone for atleast 30 days, I just started adding coconut oil to her food see if that helps her skin, I heard baby shampoo works well with the skin I may get a small bottle and see if it helps any, once her fleas which I hope they don't, come back I'll try dawn then the baby shampoo afterwards to add the moisture back in, luckily flea season is almost over with it almost winter.
She apparently likes coconut oil, she licked it off the spoon she wouldn't do that for garlic I had to put it in her favorite thing, bread, which she only gets when I give her a benedril. alls I know is I don't trust hartz after hearing some other people's stories it got me to thinking.
