My Dog Killed My Duck And Now Im Crying

I have two mini dushuands and three weeks ago my husband brought me home two ducklings. I had been taking care of them and letting them run around the house(they were helping me get rid of roaches) They were getting big and I couldn't wait for them to get bigger because so I could find out what type of duck they were and their sex. I put them in the tub to swim and they were getting friendlier and frendlier. The dogs seemed ok with them. The female watched them while they were inthe cage but other then a sniff here and there while they ran around she seemed fine. The male dog left them alone because he understood that he couldn't mess with them. I checked on everyone around 9.the male dog was with me in bed and the female was under the bed in another room with the ducks but wasn't bothering them. Around 10 my childern came in crying. My female dog had savagly killed the ducks. I was in histerics. While I am mad at the dog and cant look at her right now I place the blame on my self and not her. I knew that there was a risk but I didnt make sure they were apart. And dushuands are historicaly hunting dogs. My husband said he would buy more ducks to please my sons but I dont want to as I'm afraid this would happen again

I'm sorry for your loss. Dogs need lots of training to be safe around your animals but it is definitely doable if your family works together and puts in the time. Good luck.
