Hi everyone. My duck can't walk. She is around 5 weeks old. She can use her right leg fine. It is just her left leg. She walks on her elbow, and I think it is painful for her to walk like that. Her foot was turned in before, we solved that by spreading out her foot and taping it with medical tape to pieces of plastic or cardboard. She now spreads her foot out, but she still walks on her elbow. I don't know how to make a splint for it. Please help me!

that was from a few days ago. her foot is now pretty much spread out.

What is her feed? What is the protein content?

Do you give her any vitamins or different foods? Like I give my duckies eggs and tuna and dark greens in addition to their fermented food.

Duckies need a lot of protein to function. Difficulty walking is usually a sign of protein and/or niacin deficiency.

Is that fresh duckie poop in the picture? If it's the duckie poop, is all her poop that dark?

Your duckie is cute!

She is eating chick grower, i believe it is 18%, but im not sure. We give them vitamins and electrolytes for poultry with niacin. She also just ate almost a whole bag of peas by herself XD. I dont think it is, they are mixed with the chickens. So it could be chicken poop. Thank you! Her name is Minnie Pearl :)

Minnie Pearl needs more protein. The chick starter alone isn't enough. :)

Maybe make her some scrambled eggs? I use to make a dozen eggs and give it to the four ducks. They used to ask for more. That was the first high protein food my duckies would eat.

When my duckies were younger/smaller, I use to give them extra food every day (eggs, fish, greens, etc). Now that they free range all day, they get a lot of bug protein. Lol - they are my BEST foragers! I still watch their walk, their legs, their feet, and their overall affect. I still supplement with additional foods, but don't need to do it in such high quantity.

Ok, I will whip some up and give them to her. We also bought fish for them to eat while they swam, I think she got some.

:D Haven't you heard about the food swimming rule? You are suppose to wait at least 30 minutes after eating before you go swimming! ;) Come on now, don't let Minnie Pearl start bad habits now, at such a young age!
