Found one of our chicks with a nail nearly completely torn off.

We can only speculate. My mom thinks it might have happened when she accidentally stepped on her foot in the coop yesterday.

The good news is they can do okay without the nail.

I know. They can even live without one or two toes, a comb, and wattles. None of those will inhibit them if taken care of. I think my rooster lost a toe to frost bite this year. Either that or the rat that's been hanging around was desperate enough to take his toe without us noticing any blood.

I think it all depends on what's left behind. Just like with us, sometimes they'll re-grow and others not.
