You would be surprised at how much you learn while teaching something that's not your strong suite. That said, I looked at my grandkid's math homework and couldn't make sense of it and math is my strong suite.

They have the boys doing work that when i was a kid, we wouldn't be learning until at least third grade. Not to mention their being taught in a totally different way then I learned.
