My duck/chicken life

At the time I was trying to get a business started. Then the kids moved out and the final straw was when the wife had a stroke.

We're you going to be a breeder? Or egg supplier? Or both?
All three. Still a breeder of barred Hollands. I grew out CX and sold whole and cutup chickens, and I sold eggs. Part of the challenge is the market is an hour drive from me. It made sense to make the drive as long as I was selling chicken, turkey and ducks but to make it for just eggs it didn't make sense. Even at $5.00 per dozen it took way more than I could sell to make the trip. Today I sell day old chicks for $10.00 and have had more demand than I can supply. I have gotten raved reviews from my customers.

We sell silkies, mixed breeds, and eggs. Never sold meat. And we've so far only sold anything to locals. So we aren't a state wide thing yet. We plan to sell Pekin, and Cayuga ducklings as well.

For today, the chickens aren't happy about this
