I have a Peking duck that is approximately 1 1/2 years old. She lives with 8 other ducks and 2 geese. I noticed 4 days ago she was falling over when walking and trying to eat. Her name is Waddles. She is the only one exhibiting these symptoms. After some research I found this could be attributed to low Niacin. We separated her from the flock and began feeding her a mash with green peas, unsalted sunflower seeds, bell peppers and her regular feed (Dumor non-medicated starter and grower mixed with scratch) She has improved somewhat but when she tries to preen she will fall backwards onto her back. Her balance when walking has also improved some but she is still having issues. She has a good appetite, drinks often and is energetic. What else do i need to try?

So sorry to read she's having trouble 😔
Is she still laying eggs?
You could try giving her a dose of Vitamin B complex twice a day. You can get it with the livestock medicines or give the human version.
Also, try giving them just the feed, without scratch mixed in. They will gladly pick out just the scratch goodies and throw their nutrition out of whack. Scratch should be treated more as a treat than part of the regular diet.

Keep us posted!

Thank you so much for that information.I will definitely remove the scratch. I didn't know it was more of a treat food. Do you add the B Complex to her food or water? She has not been laying for some time now. We got eggs from them several times a week but no eggs in months.

Most folks use B complex from tractor supply, and the dosage is 1ml a day but a little less or a little more is okay. if she eats treats put it on the treats,

Those veggies and nut mash is good for her but it doesnt pack the nutrients and protein she needs from her feed

What does her poop look like? Have you checked the bottom of her feet lately?

I hope she gets better soon!

You can mix the B with her food or treats if you want, but if I have to give it to any of my birds I usually put it in a baby medicine syringe and give it to them orally.

I just checked the bottom of her feet. There is no trauma or abrasions and they are a pretty bright orange. Her poop varies. Is goes from semi soft to runny. I have not noticed any worms but i didn't know if most or all would be visible to the naked eye.

That dose 1 ml a day the Durvet is an excellent B complex for our birds.
Thank you! Im going to get the Vitamin C Complex now. I will let everyone know how she is doing after she takes it a few days.
