My duck is sitting on chicken eggs

Reporting back--the first batch of eggs she sat on never hatched. I don't know if it got too hot or if she leaves the nest too much or what but she's determined to hatch more and keeps stealing new eggs all the time. I'm not sure what we're going to do with her if she doesn't hatch something soon because she's DETERMINED to do it despite the first batch not hatching. We had a wild dog break into our brooder and steal a sitting hen and we gave her those eggs, hoping she'd have a shorter sit to finish that batch up if she can, so, I guess if that batch hatches, I'll report back.

did they hatch? it has been 1+ months since you posted that

Thank you for updating! It's nice to know what the results were, even if they aren't very exciting this time.
I just found this thread, but wish I'd seen it sooner! I had the opposite scenario. I had a bantam hen hatch out eight mallard ducklings. Watching her teach those babies to scratch in the grass was hysterical ... and they did it into adulthood!. The craziest part was when those babies discovered the kiddie pool. Mama went NUTS, literally throwing herself on the ground. When she was done pitching her fit, she picked herself up, shook herself off and walked away without looking back. The ducklings continued their bath and followed the other ducks from then on. It was hysterical to watch, but I'm certain poor Henny Penny didn't see the humor in any of it!

My duck went broody and stole some chicken eggs and now she's sitting on them and won't let anyone near. Will she actually hatch them? Will she raise them? We have 2 female ducks in with a bunch of chickens and two roosters. Could this work out or will it end badly? We also have one other hen currently brooding eggs of almost the same duration, so we can always steal them from the duck and put them under the hen if we can avoid death-by-broody-duck. ;) But we were curious if the duck has any chance of raising the chickens at all. We also have no duck pond in the chicken run and we just let the ducks out of the run to use the kiddie pool, so if chicks drowning is a concern, there's not access to water like that and we could regulate/schedule her dips in the pool around the kids socializing the chicks or something.
if broody ducks are anythign like chickens they will hatch out any eggs even if they arent their own. some broodys steal eggs from other hens

It depends I say let her sit on the eggs, but monitor her, and when they do hatch be very cautious on how she acts, and remove them if she shows any aggressive behavior towards them. It also depends if she will stay broody long enough to hatch the eggs.
