I have 3 ducklings, 2 chocolate runners about a month old and a fawn runner about 3 weeks old. One of my chocolate runners legs are shaking. I know about the niacin, I have them on a chick boost probiotic that has niacin in it along with vitimans A D3 E C and B12 and am following the directions, one 10g scoop per gallon. I have them on a crumble poultry feed with no added hormones or antibiotics, and it does have prebiotics and probiotics, pretty much everything the chick boost has in it and more (just no niacin in the food) should I take her to the vet or does anyone know what might be causing this issue? We take them outside multiple times a day (the weather has been more than warm enough) a bath every night and playing in water outside as well (always warm water so they don't get too cold). She's the only one with the issue out of the 3 of them which is why I'm concerned. TYIA ❤️😭

Also I am a new member! 👋🏼First time raising ducks and I have tried to read up on everything id need to know but I feel like this might be out of my hands? Katie is my name by the way!

I'm not sure the chick boost has enough niacin for that breed. Try adding brewers yeast, or get some niacin capsules, and add a pinch into their feed. At that age, I fed mine layer feed crumbles. It's my understanding that the higher protein in chick starter/flockraiser feeds is a bit too high for them. Mine has done fine doing this.

You feed your three week old/month old ducklings layer feed?

What brand of feed are you feeding?

And what is the brand of the chick supplement you're using?

Yes I do. I've was advised to do that by a person on here that raises ducks. I was told that, unlike chickens, higher protein is not beneficial to them. Niacin, on the other hand, is very important. While some use brewers yeast, others open niacin capsules, and sprinkle a little on their feed daily. I have caplets, that I crush, and sprinkle a little on my duck's feed. No angel wing, no leg problems, and no health issues. (BTW, the person giving me the advice, had the same problem of their ducks not eating the duck feed. Wouldn't touch it.)

I ask, because, to my knowledge, most layer feeds contain around 3 to 4% calcium, which is 3 to 4 times the amount a duckling that age needs.

Isaac, I was feeding Purina Flockraiser, and adding niacin. Several mentioned that I should not keep it on that past 3 weeks, because the protein level is too high. As I said, I had tried duck feed, and it was a no go. Wouldn't touch it. That's when I was told that it would do fine on layer feed, and to keep adding the niacin. That was over 2 months ago, and as I said, there have been no issues.
