My Egg Laying Machine Buff Orpington

My BO has started laying since January and she has been very consistent in her pattern of 3 days eggs and one day off.

Nope.
My BO is a machine. Lays 5-6 eggs a week. Has pretty steadily since she started laying last fall. The lightbrown leghorn layed 4-5 eggs a week. Now she's on strike and has been since we built the new coop and moved them. She looks like she's getting set to start laying again though soon.

My BO are laying machines right now too. They've only been laying about 6 weeks but 2 dozen a week from 4 hens is way more eggs than I counted on from them. Not that I'm complaining!

I'm thinking one of my hens looks pretty tasty but I am pretty sure I can sell her as a laying hen for more than twice what I can buy a chicken for at the store. I don't consider her nasty tempered but she does try peck the devil out of me if she thinks I'm going to touch her. Which only gets her held down for a minute, but she persists at times. She'll follow me around the yard with the rest of them though.

My 2 buff orpingtons are incredible layers as well. My record was 13 days in a row from Lulu (who started laying the beginning of December). After her 13 day stint she had a day break then layed for another week and then.....broodiness at 8 months. She hasn't layed for the past week so I am just patiently waiting for her broodiness to pass and maybe next time it happens again I will try and put some fertile eggs under her

I also have 4 hens...2 buff orpingtons, a light brahma and an easter egger...and I have been averaging 2 dozen eggs a weeks with my record being 27 eggs in a week from 4 wonderful hens.

Are you sure you have Buff Orpintons? I have three of them 27 weeks old and no eggs yet.

I have 2 purebred cochins and 2 cochin/copper maran crosses and one buff orpington/partridg cochine - I got them because they were sweet in temperament an Ioved how "fluffy" they looked lol

the the oldest purebred cochin has been laying for 3 weeks about an egg every day and a half - but 3 days ago the partridge cochin started laying and both girls laid an egg on Sat morning and again on Sunday Morning. I was very impressed because I read cochins were not very prolific layers.

this morning we got a 3rd egg and I missed who laid the 3rd egg. What a blessing to have such generous girls lol

I have raised 2 BO & 3 australorp hens from 3 weeks old, now 24 weeks, and still no eggs either! no nesting habits in the hen house.. curious as to when they will start?!

When you see their faces getting red and the combs getting bigger and redder, they will be within two weeks of laying. They may even squat for you when you reach out to them. At 24 weeks you probably don't have much longer to wait.

Hi, I'm getting my first two tomorrow!!! So excited. I'm new to chickens and love this forum. You are all so helpful. I really want them because I hear they are good brooders.
