You're welcome. It usually takes a few hours for the blood and yolk to gets absorbed. Once than membrane is completely clear you can remove a bit more of the shell, dampen more of the membrane and check on progress. Before you let the chick out of the shell, check it's belly area to make sure there is no sign of blood or yolk first. Do not remove any of the inner membrane before the chick is ready to come out though.
She's rocking around a Bit now so I'm hoping she will get herself out now. If not I will do what you've just said. Will the humidity be ok with me getting her out to peel bits off? Should I put her on a damp towel again if I have to do it?
She's lively, that's good. She must just hang in there now. When I start peeling the egg I dampen it as I go along and if you got a lot of shell off it helps if you wrap it in a damp cloth.
ok an update on the little chick ....... she hasn't pipped anymore shell off since I last posted, she just keeps tapping her beak but not getting anywhere at all. the outer membrane is like a yellowy green colour which I believe is dried out?? but I keep dabbing it every 2 hours with water and the humidity in the incubator is 90 according to my new gauge. the little one is cheeping like mad, but the inner membrane is still realy pink around her beak and head. i'm starting to panic now.
Remove a bit more of the shell and the outer membrane and dampen the inner membrane. Check for blood vessels. If you see any active vessels, leave it a bit longer. If you do not see any vessels remove a bit of the shell in the chick's belly area and see if you can see the yolk. Once the yolk has been absorbed she can come out.
hows this looking? I've just took most of that off as she hadn't done anything through the night. I couldn't see her belly as she is so squished up. does it look ok to keep picking more shell off? I found one very red blood vessel above her head but I never touched it so it didn't bleed. I have put her back in the inci for a rest now. what do you think I should do?
