You've been MUCH more productive than me today. I'm still watching them hatch. It is interesting! I'm now at 6 babies and one pip. Going to take pics soon. I haven't been able to check them over good for spots, but it looks like five paints and one dark one. I need to get them out soon, they're getting naughty in there picking at everything!
5 eggs to go!

I may get a showgirl out of this hatch!

I'm looking forward to your photos! I absolutely love paints!

My 10 splash silkies are due to hatch tomorrow but my tempuratures have been so unstable that I'm stressed to the max!

Ok I got the babies that hatched out and whisked them away to the brooder, got a quick picture while in transit. The baby at the bottom of the pic has several really nice spots. I'm not sure about the others, I'll inspect them more later. They're looking a little pink yet, but the skin will turn dark in a couple days.

I have 7 eggs left to hatch, one of them is pipped. I grab out the chicks run them to the brooder, mist some warm water in there to keep humidity up and shut the lid fast.
Come back from watching the babies and my incubator is 96 degrees. The temp will not come up. It smells like it's burning and the light won't come on! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH Unplugged it.
Thankfully I have some other eggs just put in another incubator, I moved the remaining eggs to that incubator, the auto-turner is off, and I increased the humidity right away.

this goes ok. The eggs were cheeping as I was moving them over.

Oh no Shayna................ your incubator died on you while in your final hatch.......... crap........... At least you had another going. Is there an egg turner in? That will probubly be ok if you pull the newly hatched out right away. With my luck they would end up under it.

I guess thats what we get talking about replacing them?? The incubators that is.
Now go buy that new one.

Say merry christmas to me.

The ones you have out are beautiful.
I had my own little crisis here, one of them pipped at the small end........ Then nothing........
Lots of reading on here ( my second mother)and another silkie person said to flip it over.
I opened the bator sprayed all with warm water flipped the one egg and got out.............. I hate opening it............We will see. The temp stayed good.
I still just have the 4 hatched lots of pips but not much else?????? I think I will go hang another ornament on the tree.....and start happyhour.

Yeah, it's very stressful. I have 2 other LG bators, one I've never used and the other was incubating eggs I just put in. I didn't have the turner on since they were shipped eggs, I'd recently done an egg trade by mail. I decided to let them incubate a couple days without the turner on because the air cells were pretty shook up. That said, there is really no room for these guys to hatch in there.
The egg that pipped, had made a bigger pip like it was trying to zip, then nothing for a couple hours. I got very nervous and started to pick away at it a little bit with the shower running. It was totally shrink wrapped.

I did free it and it's fine now, in with the other babies. One more paint! I could see one little spot on it, but it's still very wet.
I'm not sure what to do now. I have 5 eggs remaining, two of them were added a day late so they shouldn't be hatching now. The other 3, I've heard chirps from at least one, but no external pip I can see. I REALLY hope they aren't shrink wrapped. Don't know what to do, but I don't want to break into them. This incubator breaking really messed things up. I'm thankful I got the last one out fine.
Sounds like you had your own scary situation! Hopefully it comes out ok. I haven't had one pip on the wrong end before, but flipping it or putting it on its side will probably help.

for your babies. I did have some pip and wait a long time, others pipped later and hatched out first, but when I saw this one start to pip more like it tried to zip and couldn't, that's when I got really worried when it stopped.

More pictures to come later. One of the babies is absolutely beautiful. I'm amazed by how many spots it has already. More than I've ever seen. Most of my babies come out with a couple small spots and then as they feather in they get a lot more, this one, I'm very excited to see what it brings. The black one, wasn't a color I was hoping to hatch, but it is soooo cute, it has perfectly semetrical white wings. I think it'll make someone a beautiful pet.

I think we had about the same day:confused:
Except I got some christmas stuff out........... I have spent some time today with a pick in hand myself, hoping to save a chick gone astray.

It is actually kinda funny, my husband made me this tool to do some " Incubator surgery with" It is pretty sophisticated and high tech
(NOT)
It is a tool I can reach into the bator through the hole where the red plug goes..... you know???? and pull the egg in it styrofaom egg container under the hole and do some picken....
I have 5 out now in the brooder all are good. The rest are just waiting??????????????? Today at 6:00 pm is day 21 for me.....
Another long night............... Exept tomorrow I have to work..... ewwwwwwww yuk............................

I know exactly how you feel. That's cool you have incubator surgery utensils. I just have tweezers if needed and I always keep a styptic (however thats spelled) pencil nearby just in case. Glad I helped that one out, it was weak and very stuck... Still just hoping the others are ok. I too have to return to work tomorrow.
That's great you've gotten your christmas stuff up! I need to do that, but I'm not sure where to put our 12' christmas tree when I have incubator stations where we used to have our tree.

OK, I've decided what I want for Christmas! Just a cheep styrofoam incubator. I believe they are about $44.99 at TSC.(hint) I will be able to increase my flock, watch a chick being born, etc... Just like my grandson said, "Ninny, a trampoline will change my life." I feel the same way about the incubator!
