Im having a heck of a time getting the temp and humidity up though! sheesh!!! wet washcloth going in tonight! ahhh....temp is only 98.6 SLOWLY CLIMBING UP!!!

LOL, you sound like me last night...

Tomorrow I have to take one of my five year olds to Duke for an appointment for her liver. It's a 3 hour drive there one way, so we'll be gone all day. I'm gonna be wondering all day about these eggs. Like leaving my kids at daycare almost. But it's a good distraction from what we are going for...

Hope that your daughters dr's appt. weht well and the bator held up its end of the bargain!! The incubation thing sounds not so easy! I was thinking of getting the Hovbator 1588 with the turner and fan etc. Do ant of you have one? is it reliable? Watching with bated breath!!

My temps have been low in the bator and does not want to come up so I think my hatch wil be later than normal

Thanks, y'all for asking. The appointment was tough. We didn't really get good news. She'll likely be going into the hospital again for a couple procedures on her liver. She has Alagille syndrome, and she also has some major heart defects that really complicate things. So far her heart has not been able to be repaired because her pulmonary arteries have not grown enough to repair it. Because of that, she is not eligible for a liver transplant, so we are going to do what seems to me like "patchwork" on her liver. Her cardiologist has to give approval though. We are just trying to make the liver as healthy as possible to last until hopefully one day when her heart may finally get to be repaired. But there is a spot on her liver now that they have found that they are concerned about.

Sooo... we are waiting til tomorrow to hear more. Supposed to call us after all the different teams talk together.

Now y'all know why these eggs are such a great distraction right now!! We needed something to concentrate on.

The bator has done oh so well. I am not getting any spikes up, so far. I do have an issue with it going to 98.8 or 98.6 (in the water wiggler) for 15-20 mins at a time before it goes back up, right around the time the light comes back on. If I bump it up, even the most minute amount on the thermostat, it will only go down to about 99.7 or so, but it will go up to 102.5 or 103. So That's the best I can do. Since it's only a few mins at a time, I'm hoping it will be ok with the 98.8.

But while I was gone I had no spikes and the humidity was 26 when I got home. I bumped it up to mid 30's and it's holding again.

Post as soon as you can when you get pips. I'm so excited to see what you get!

OwensMom,

I don't have a storebought bator. Mine's homemade. But that's what I was going to get, or the 1602, whichever is forced air. When I asked about bators in the price range I was looking at, Hovabator was the most recommended. I don't have a turner, but I only have about $35 in mine, so it worked for me.

blessedchickenmama7-is your daughter an infant. It takes awhile sometimes to untangle the medical problems but with all of our advanced technology miracles are possible. Chickens are good therapy if the incubator doesn't drive you crazy!!
Thanks for the info on the hovabator. I'll monitor this conversation so keep us updated. Take care, Lynn
