My Exotic and Migratory Ducks [Destinduck] (Photos)

exoticduckluvr- Thank you for the offer, but I guess I better wait on those...I should begin I guess with the easier\\get-along types first, since I will be a newbie with wild waterfowl. I have some greenhouse frames that might make excellent aviary frames, they are 2 inch galvanized pipe bent in a house outline, end to end there about 26 ft wide and standing on the ground 10.5 ft to the top, but of course I would have to put some in the ground. Attached some boards around the bottom cover with wire(after installing pond)...then I will need to start on the wish list

Just noticed this one for the first time Destin, beautiful well cared for waterfowl you got there, course I figured they would be. Have to say I am impressed withe paradise, always loved them myself. And yep, do agree, they can beat the heck out of you if they wanted. Never had aggressive Europeans, but most of the others were pretty feisty.
Oh love that bufflehead too!! Shoot, you know me, I love them all, will definitely be headed to LA to get some from you when the time comes, hopefully fall 2011.
Good luck this spring.

Hattiegun,I thought you were talkin about me at first. I went to go feed my treeducks about a month ago and I saw a black bellie on top the pen just a whistling .Thinking one got out, got my net and tried to capture it. Missed! Well looked in the pen had all 4 birds of mine. Turns out it was a wild bird visiting. Then when I went to feed the big pen 5 more were sitting inline on a tree above it.

yea Aubrey they are mean and loud but I love their noises and mannerisms(actually just the boy is mean, the girls all bluff) and speaking of buffleheads you would not believe the numbers we get in the bay, most common and hunted duck around! I may get some australian shelducks on a trade if it works out.

Swheat some real easy, cheap, beautiful, easy to breed and fun birds are ringed teal, manderins, and regular woodducks. Plus they all breed in boxes about 4 to8 ft off the ground and if ya use a chain link fence post its ratproof.

never thought of the metal poles for nesting boxes, that's good, never had a rat probelm in mine, but oak (rat) snakes are horrible here on getting in them and getting the eggs, would think that would at least slow them down too, may have to try that!.
Nothing worste than being on a ladder or bucket to reach into a box expecting eggs, and get hit in the hand by a blame snake. I about tore my arm off the first time in happened trying to get my hand out of the hole, LOL
Not to mention is was facing over the ponds, yep, I fell in...

Ouch ! I once had a bat in a box (thats why I have lift up tops so I can look before I grab) That made me jump. Luckily never had a rat or snake get at any eggs. But did have a snake get my baby fulvous this year.My fault got busy and didnt put em in the brooder. Getting a pr of 2010 canvas back and n.a. shovelers this week, Had to sell mine a coupla weeks ago to a friend here cause hes been wanting them forever and are his favorite. I know how that feels. My paradise female is making a nest, she did that in the fall last year had 4 eggs set but none fertile. Spring fertile. They are my only winter laying birds.Maybe if she lays this time they will have babies.

Oh My goodness you have black bellied whistling tree ducks.. I love those.. Mine flew off last fall.. Hubby wouldn't let me clip their wings.. I'd had them for several years.. I had two females and they had a wild one that came to visit the whole summer. would stay the whole day and leave. or some times come in the evening and stay all night. Fred and Louise got to where they didn't want to go in their night pen.. I'm thinking that Fred flew off one morning with the male.. Louise followed a week later after they went through their molt.
I had a pair of Blk bellied whistling ducks come to visit this spring several times but not sure if it was Fred and mate or louise and mate. I think if it would of been Fred she would of whistled at me.. I'll watch this spring and see if them come again..

Keep us up to date for when you get your permit.

never had a bat, have woke up wasp nest before with a hand though, that's get your blood flowing.
Congrats on the paradise, and the new arrivals, though I have to say, you're a better friend that I would have been, I'd made them go find their own if I only had just a few, LOL

STILL HOPE TO HEAD YOUR WAY THIS SUMMER!
