thanks swheat and all. Donna those are one of the boxes for the treeducks. That pen is about20x20 and has a dozen birds in it.I have about 5 on the ground and some hanging up like wood duck boxes with holes about 5 inchs around. That box in the pic was used this year by a black-belly hatching 6 babies (but first year birds) gave the babies to a friend, we trade each other so it will come back around. Got my baikals and white woodies BTW

over them!!!

I wish list consisted of Wood ducks, Mandarins, White-faced Tree ducks, Bahama Pintails. Now I want to add European Shelducks, Canvasbacks, Cinnamon Teal, and some Widgeons...the list keeps growing.

That's what I thought Shaun. Going to have to show hubby so he can make me some. I thought they would use the Wood Ducks boxes but were not interested. Mine Fulvous nested on a big plant pot laying in its side. Everyone should breed this year. Yes I have high hope for the Falcated this year. need to read up on their nesting habits.
You got my Bikal!!! Did you get the from the Priest in Fl ??? Your e-mail must have just beat mine lol. You lucked out on that deal for sure.

I made a pretty good deal too last weekend. I trade my 5 big fat Black Copper Marans Hens I hatched a yr ago and 50.00 for a pr of Hottentot Teal woo hoo!!

Oh I am so busted. I ordered a new Chiloe Widgeon since after 2 males she is not hatching out any babies and all eggs are clear. Well no one likes to pay for shipping on just one bird so I ordered a pr of Chestnut breasted Teal to go with them. Of course Hubbie is sick today and just walked in the door and my birds will be here any minute. I don't ask because he always say no. So I buy and suffer the yelling later lol

SWheat I had my European Shelducks posted for sale in the BYC auction until someone was e-mail to buy them and through the conversaions I knew they wouldn't receive proper care and that is more important to me than the sale. So I removed it before he decided to hit BIN. They are larger and are bulling all my smaller ducks so i decided to sell them. I don't believe they will do well in a normal Aviary inless it is really huge. mine is 17' x 40' with the pool taking up about 1/4 of the aviary. If you really want them e-mail or p.m. me as I have them listed on Craigs List

The european or common shelduck as it is sometimes called are easy to keep. They are not much larger than a treeduck. But like exoticduckluvr said do better by themselves (As do all shelducks) I have a friend that keeps his in a 80x30 pen with lots of other ducks and no problem at all.Mine in the pic is in one of my 8x14 pens. I have a Paradice shelduck male that will hurt you bad with his wings. He can pop you so hard its unreal. The shelducks all make neat noises. I use my paradice pr as my guard ducks.Like geese they let you know whos coming, They are the loudest ducks there is. Canvasback are easy to keep also but alot harder to breed. They really need a big pond, big pen and lots of cover. As always before getting a new duck or species do all the research you can. there is a great thread called the migratory and exotic waterfowl thread by BBB. As your list grows your money slows

Also donna Im not a greedy pety Im sure we can work a trade on some baikal and falcated babies with any luck this spring.
