My experiences with shipped eggs, if anyone cares.

This time of year? Absolutely. In the warmer months I never let eggs 'settle' for long, especially not game bird eggs. They do seem to start incubating in-transit. I've had much better hatches when I just pop them in the bator. Now if it were winter you'd want to let them rest so they wouldn't be ice-cold and develop condensation.

EH CHUKARS A TAD DIFFERENT IN THAT THEY ARE DESIGNED TO BE STORED FOR 30 DAYS OR SO.. NOT SO MUCH WITH QUAIL... BUT IF THE HEAT DOES TRIGGER THEM IT WONT HURT

Ok the first part of the experiment is over out of 55 eggs set directly into the incubator and noturners for the first 48 i have 51 hatced chicks alive and healthy! The other hatch of fourteen eggs that I waited 24 hrs before setting and started the turners immediatly 6 chicks hatched and one was not healthy and died withen hours of being moved to the brooder these all htched withen an hour and a half of each other but still nowhere near as good a hatch rate. So now I wait for the postman to bring the next eggs I ordered from the same pl;ace and im going to start incubation after an hour of resting and see if this is really what increased my hatch rate. The same incubator has been sanitized and is back up to temperature so I will update again in about 3 weeks, im assuming the eggs will be here sometime this week.
Thanks
Chris

I've been wondering the same things. I haven't hatched quail but chickens have had very low hatch rates. I'm down in the hill country and shipping priority takes up to a week and a half, and never less than five days. I'm getting some quail in and would be happy to piggyback on your experiment.

TexasChris,
I am glad you posted this information. I will be going into lock down today for shipped coturnix eggs. I purchased 300, received 330 set about 240, 90 were busted due to the worst packing job I have ever seen

. I did wait a few hour before putting them in the incubator due to the fact I was checking each eggs for cracks and trying to decide if I even wanted to set them, which I did(so far they have not made a mess in the incubator). I did wait a couple of days before turning the auto-turner on... We'll see if I get any hatches from them but these had a terrible trip. I would be very surprised if any hatch at all.

Still have more eggs coming soon I hope, I do the same with them.

Then in a couple more days I will go into lock down for some Jumbo Bobs. I expect these will do much better at hatching, also these rested in the incubator before using the auto-turner.

Also have some Blue Scale quail eggs cooking, from 26 I had 9 busted during shipping, but have my

for the other 21.
