Tori, you did not send me silkie eggs...I have a scree scree falcon or hawk in my house...
lol.png
is that their crow?!?

The two grey are males and more than likely one of the black ones is a male but bottom of the ladder guy. Only one lil girl, the one in the middle in the above pic and she's a sweetie. I'm going to separate them as those teenage boys are doing the kung fu moves to determine who's top of the ladder guy and upsetting her.

What do you do w/extra boys? They are WAY to close to my heart to eat and my adult kids would never forgive me if I even mentioned this out loud! Guess they could be given aways as house pets? Or kept in a "boys home" coop until I've got more girls?

Added: They think pressure cooked salmon is way better than their commercial feed! Now they are throwing their feed out and looking for salmon...

Um... yes, they're silkies.

When they start learning to crow, they sound like they're being choked. We have one roo named Kazoo, for that very reason.

You could try to rehome them, or give them a bachelor pad. If you only have one girl, you'll only want one boy in there with her. I'm sure then you'll be hatching more as soon as they're old enough, right?

That's a good idea about the salmon. I could cook up some of the freezer burned stuff for them. We usually give it to the neighbor's sled dogs, but if the chickens will eat it, I'm all for stretching the feed bill!!!

Well, I'm not getting the 1502... yet. We're still trying, but they want $300-$400 just to ship it up here.

Too much. I need to find someone that already has one up here.

Well, it looks like I won't be getting a son of Tyson's this year...
went out to the coop to move some birds around and make room for the two silkie boys and the EE chicks I think are also boys and discovered one of my three Mille Fleur D'Uccles has grown a tall comb over night! He should be crowing in a week or so...now where to put them??? I'm switching over to bantams much more quickly than I thought I would:(

Yes, I'll be building up the Silkies, too, so I can't win for losing:rolleyes: Cannot, just cannot have only one flock!!! Impossible! At least for now...so the big question on the LF is how many will I end up w/and I do know I'll be butchering soon, to build up the body type I want, possibly tomorrow or Sunday:/

Had a GREAT dream last night, there were TWO big insulated buildings in the yard waiting for me to fill w/birds...best dream I've ever had! Wish the dream had included the money to feed those flocks, too! I keep eye-ing your GORGOUS Red Dorking...may be ready whenever you are in the future
