My female ducks

I have to female ducks who are constantly mounting each other and I was wondering why. I have a male he isn't old enough to mate but they were doing it even before i got him.

It is an act of dominance.

Three possible reasons:

1] It's a hormone driven behavior & it will stop when your male starts doing his thing.

2] One of them is actually a male.

I know they diffrence they are both females, unless one is confused... they both lay eggs.

Just establishing who is boss.

Janet is my dominant female. She mounts the two others. Well she did until she hurt herself. We'll have to see how the pecking order is effected once she is done healing and goes back to the flock.
