At the insistence of @KikisGirls I am starting a thread about my broody pullet Charlotte. Charlotte is a Golden Sebright x Old English Game Bantam pullet. For the past few days she was acting all odd. She would walk around all puffed out and make noises. I suspected that she would go broody. Well yesterday she laid her last egg and promptly went broody. So now I will be getting 6 fertile eggs this Sunday for her to hatch.

Will you be candling these eggs at any time?

Are you going to move her to a secure area where others can't bother her?

She is currently in a prefab kit coop by herself. I think I will candle the eggs on either day 10 or 14 to ensure that she will continue to sit.

I would recommend candling and smelling the eggs around day 18. I just had a broody hatch where an egg went bad and exploded under a hen, killing one freshly hatched baby and two in the shell.
Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry that you lost 3 chicks. I will definitely candle the eggs on day 18.
