My First Broody!

And then two.

It’s amazing how fluffy and dry they are, even under her.

Helen sat up tonight and gave me a less obstructed look at the other eggs. Two appear to be intact. Since tomorrow is only day 21, I'm going to leave them until Thursday, when I return from out of town. The last egg has partly hatched but there did not appear to be any movement. When I put them up tonight, I'm going to pull it as I suspect it's died.

The semi-hatched chick, as suspected, dead. The other two eggs are intact, so I left them. Helen pecked me but was more concerned with keeping the living chicks from me, which I wasn't trying to touch anyway, so she didn't get too upset. One of the eggs, I swear I saw this here and didn't understand how someone could make such a mistake until it just happened to me. One of the eggs was two colors. It certainly wasn't like that when I set them. As it turned out, the half shell of one hatched egg fit perfectly over one of the unhatched eggs, membrane included, and they stuck together, making them look like one two-colored egg. Now I know how that person thought that! I'm not holding out hope for the remaining eggs. Helen seems to be losing interest.
