Thanks...ya, I had a really difficult time trying to decide how I was going to do the nesting boxes. In the end, I thought this was was easier. I like the way it came out too. It's easy to open the door us and check in on the little gals too.
My poor 3 Polish girls kept getting picked on. One of them almost had all of her tail feathers plucked out. I'm now building them a private Condo. Here's construction so far:
They're my wife's favorites! So we can't have the bigger girls plucking out their feathers! You can see the one on the right has most of top of her head plucked out
There is always a pecking order. This Spring I bought 8 new babies all at once so they would have a group to face the big girls in. It was funny, the lower on the pecking order in the big girl group finally had some to pick on. They are doing better now, but still the young ones know their place when it comes to waiting in line for food. I hate seeing my babies getting picked on too.
When you do your roof tack on some roll tar paper and slap on the shingles and those girls will be high and dry. You might want to add a gutter on the low end end. One more suggestion is paint, your wood will rot quickly if it soaks up any water. Is the knotted sides cedar? Maybe a good coat of Thompsons water sealer inside and out.Nice looking set up.
Thanks! the knotted sides of the coop are pine barn boards we picked up from a discount lumbar yard. It was a good deal, and I think looks nice too. It's reddish color is from the sealer/stain we put on it.
