My first day in the Farmer's Market!

Thank you all for your support! In the farmer's markets nearest with eggs, eggs are selling out at $5.50 and $7.00 per dozen. And not to toot my own horn, but those are just white and brown eggs, nothing they can't get (appearance wise) in the store.

My ultimate goal is to get into the Portland FM's next year, at least one week or 2, the extra $2 I could charge would pay for the extra trouble and booth costs. I can't participate in those markets yet, I don't have enough laying hens laying this year, one step at a time right

Wow! Way to go. Congrats on your sales. Right now I sell at the local farmers market and usually get $2.00 for a dozen of brown and white mixed eggs.

I don't understand this price disparity. I live in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Here, at the WalMart they sell so called brown organic eggs for 4.66 a doz. last time I checked. A regular ol' commercial doz. of white is 1.88. Then I go to the FM and I see them being sold by one old farmer for 1.50. Another sells for 2.00 and one sells for 3.00.

It cost money for all the feed, oyster shell, grit, straw, sevin dust etc. Plus the start up price of a coop and enclosed run.

When I started I was thinking 3.00 but there's too much undercutting. Guess I will hope for 2.00 per doz. and hope it at least covers cost. People down here don't seem willing to spend what they are worth!

As soon as our 12 pullets start laying we plan to hit the farmer's market and we will be selling for $5.00 a dozen as well. Some people won't pay that much....that's fine. There are plenty that will shell out the extra couple of dollars for fresh farm eggs.

I think a lot has to do with where you live. The costs of items are very different state to state.

We sell them for $4

I've asked my customers if they preferred one color and they all say to keep them mixed.

They do request white around Easter.
