My first duck egg!!

So far so good. One egg a day since she started and all have been in her nesting area. Good girl!! Yea, I would say as a runner, she is a good egg layer! I just wonder how long she will lay for. We will see I suppose depending on the weather eh?

Ha! I think I will keep posting here kinda like a "egg laying chronicle" lol Today at 6am sharp, I went to let out the duck babies and I found no egg!! I was dissapointed!

Hmmm.....I would assume this means that her breed doesn't lay every single day eh? I will have my daughter check later today to see if she was just off schedule. I ate my toast in the sunroom as I watched them root around the yard for an hour. I wanted to see if she would drop it somewhere else but she never did.

My Magpie hen has missed only one day since she started laying on August 13th. I have to admit, I felt like Christmas was over when I went out and looked in the duck house that morning.

Kind of silly how much of a treat it is to go out and find that little gift in the morning. Not sure she has a clue when I "thank her very much for the nice morning gift" everyday, but it makes me feel good.

Same as harvesting/canning/eating out of my own garden does.

Just one of those little miracles that make me happy.

Tell that to most people, and they just think I am an 'odd duck'. They just don't get it.

Wondering if six months from now I will still feel the same. Or will it become just another thing taken for granted?

Well, I feel the same way as you! It is a gift to look forward too everyday!! And I hope I still feel that way 6 months down the road!! lol Maybe if I had 100 ducks I wouldn't feel that way!? lol Or maybe I would! I would definfitley have plenty of eggs!!

She's my girl with or without eggs!

Honestly, this only make me want to go bigger and larger! I got the egg fever now!!!

Ah, my little duckling buried her egg this morning and I didn't feel it. After work I took a better peak, moved some straw around and there it was burried at the bottom under a thick patch of straw. Clever thing! lol

I finaly cracked open the first egg tonight, the poopy one that had brewed in the pool all day. It looked great, clear and no odor. I scrambled it up and set it out for the ducks to eat.....

They wanted nothing to do with it! It was as if they were stunned I would even do such a thing!? Weird.

So my dog's scarfed it down in like 8 seconds.

I am a little apprehensive as well to eat my first duck egg. After cracking the one open the other day, I feel a little better about it. It smelled good while it was cooking, but I noticed that when I scrambled it, it was more yolkie and fluffy than a chicken egg. I always liked the yolks better anyway!
