My first duck egg!!

Ok!! This morning I went to do my thing and I was shocked to find not one but two little duckie eggs in the nest!? One was green as usual the other was larger and peach colored....hmmm. Does this mean what I think it means?????

Jade is a girl??? I physically saw Jade mount and repeatedly pull on the back of Cocoa's head. I was certain that Jade was a male. However, after this monrings discovery, I must be wrong! Do female ducks act as males to show dominence? I'm cornfused now!! lol So if this is true and Jade is a female, being a Black Swedish Runner Mix, I can eat those too right?

Maybe so! I will take a picture of the eggs so you can see the difference in size and color. I did also notice the peach colored egg had a slight perfume smell. I smelled it because I wasn't sure at first if this was a "new" egg or if it was one that I had missed and had been sitting in the straw this whole time. But when I actually noticed the color and size difference I knew it had to be from Jade. Made sense!

I know I keep bumping this thread but not on purpose! I just didn't want to create a new post just to talk about the same thing.

So anywhoo!! I wanted to update my status as far as "eating" the duck eggs. This morning I finally got the nerve to scramble up a couple of duck eggs. Surprisingly thay tasted exactly like scrambled chiken eggs. The only difference was the texture. They were a little more firmer and the whites were slightly more rubbery. Overall really not so bad!!

I did this yesterday, but i didn't tolerate the texture(lots of texture intolerance) the taste was the same from the bit i had before I gagged.

My Peking has laid 2 in one day, very different looking, and smaller than normal.

Someone I know suggested adding a chicken egg when you scrample duck eggs. I guess it is suppose to help with the texture!? I think I will stick to baking this time. We gave the lot we had to some friends who have organic chicken eggs, they also have their own garden for vegi's and artisian water. They seemed really excited about the whole thing!

These two girls I swear!!!

Today I found both eggs in different parts of the pen. One was way in the back and the other was by the pool. What would make them all of a sudden not lay in their nest?? I best go out and tossel the hay and see if there is an issue!

I totally have to come up with a different system. My pen is only 3 ft high so it's hard to get back inside, once I get in there then I have to crawl into the dog house, reaching way into the back to grab the eggs. I am way to old for this kind of maneuvering!

Just curious if anyone has noticed their eggs having a perfumed smell!? The Black Swedish Runner Mix has perfumed eggs. They smell like a light floral scent. Funny!I can smell it as soon as I put my head in their nesting area.
