My first egg and they're only 13 weeks old! UPDATE- 12 wk. old

We were out in the coop this AM and we spotted the pullet who had started laying and she is one of my 12 week old girls, not one of the older 13 week old ones. We waited as we were sure she was getting ready to lay and indeed she gave us another egg.

I've got eight young hens...14 and 15 weeks old and some of them are laying. They are all Old English. I only have six hens who are laying already who are not currently with a brood (and in separate pens anyway) or are broody and sitting on eggs. But I'm getting anywhere from ten to twelve eggs a day. I thought that was pretty young...I was surprised when I started counting eggs and comparing that with how many hens I had that I thought old enough to lay.

:)Congrats on your first egg!! Since we are new to haveing chickens what difference does it make if they are purebreed or not? A chicken is a chicken and your first egg is exciting. Our babies are 13weeks old and we can't wait to see that first egg.Anyway Congrats again!! Enjoy!!
