My daughter and I went to let all the birds out of the coop this AM and in the process of putting them out the pop door, DD spotted a small brown egg in the corner by the door. Boy, were we surprised!

Two of my golden comets have been sitting in that spot off and on these past few days. I figured it was because of the draft from the door, as we're suffering along in the heat just like the rest of you in the east coast. I hadn't expected any eggs for at least another month and a half; we don't even have our nest boxes built yet. I have no idea which of the pullets laid the egg, but I suppose it doesn't really matter, our first egg.

My DH will love this, the egg, not the building project...just something else to add to his honey do list.

Thanks everyone. My 12 y.o. daughter was so excited that she couldn't wait for her father to get home to tell him the news. She stopped him at the end of the drive to make the announcement of HER new egg, which she named Eggbert. She'll eat "him" tomorrow.
