Out of my sixteen pullets, I thought my cinnamon queens would lay first and buff orpingtons would lay last. (I have cinnamon queens, buff orpingtons, easter eggers, silver laced black wyandotte, delaware.) However, today i received my first egg from (I'm pretty sure) one of my buff orpingtons! She's been actively searching for a place to nest for almost a week and had started squatting too. (My cinnamon queens comb and waddles have been way bigger and redder too for weeks now 🤦‍♀️). These chickens have been keeping me on my toes! Pictures for tax.

Congrats! Pullets can certainly throw you for a loop. I thought my girl Vanilla would be one of the last to lay, but she was the first to lay lol
Thanks! They're 22 weeks old this week. What breed was your vanilla? I'm thinking my easter eggers will be last as they still have the smallest palest combs out of all of them.

Vanilla is an easter egger. Her comb was still small and pale and she wasn't squatting when she started laying at 17 weeks. Literally came out of nowhere lol
This is the vigilant girl herself

Congratulations!
First eggs are so exciting.
You have a beautiful flock and it looks like they have a lovely place to roam around and do chicken-ey things.
