I hope it helps, the thoughts on trolls.
Some of us - reading & posting here) did not grow up hunting, and I'd imagine are uncomfortable or even freaked out by our hunting comments - and the passion people feel about it.
My grandfather taught us hunting was to put meat on the table or sometimes to reduce the #s of a legit pest - never to just kill things. An unspoken reason we hunted was that we were carrying on the traditions of our pioneer ancestors. It wasn't male only - women in the family were invited, too. My grandfather was so proud that my grandmother shot a huge buck - and made some other men (who had been grumbling about her) look like idiots.
If you don't know hunting and see us talking about guns and dogs, you could of course feel 'gee, these people are just blood thirsty savages.'. A lot of it's just talk - we get excited and talk the same way others speak excitedly about sports or fast cars. In the field, we're different - you have to be professional - hunting is darn hard work sometimes - and you got to have a solid pro demeanor to get a shot.
We are killing at some point - there is no denying that - and its not always easy. But we are a part of nature, not outside it, and you must kill. to live.. Things were killed to make even, yes, a tofu burger! Huh!! Have you ever walked in a row crop field? It is mostly devoid of life save for that one crop. Plowing kills untold #s of ground animals - and no deer and few birds live in farmland (exceptions - farmers let them forage for spillage after crop is out). The land has been taken to make food for YOU - and a huge # of animals perish or are denied a place to live or exist - so YOU can live. So you are killing or causing many animals not to exist, even if you are vegan.
I know we scare people. I don't know what to do about that, but we think we're being more honest - and we're just being who we are - and keeping alive our old traditions. Thanks for giving me a moment. I don't intend to 'change your mind' here or anything radical - I just hope you now have a new perspective on this issue.
