I have some French Toulouse goslings shipping from Metzer's on March 14th. I have raised many a duck, but these are my first geese. Is there anything I should do differently than with ducks?

Prepare to loose your heart - goslings are so adorable and quickly attatch themselves to people.

for you.

I can't wait.

A couple of years ago, I went to another local farm to get some ducklings and I fell in love with the the ladies geese. I've wanted some ever since. The DH said yeah, and talked me into some of Metzer's French Toulouse. Little does HE know that's just a start.

Ship date is March 14th. They're coming with 8 ducklings of different breeds that are for a friend.

They learn VERY quickly! So if you want to teach them something they will more than likely learn

My geese know the color orange means yummy feeder fish and they come running at my whistle. Makes life soooo much easier.

This past summer was my first time with goslings and i fell head over heels in love! Something else - even as goslings, they take offense easily, lol. And they dont forget it unless you have treats in hand and are ready to snuggle them. And snuggle them you should! My two white chinese i didnt handle much at all when they were babies and now will tolerate it only rarely when i pick them up. Where as my brown chinese gander , who i handled alot as a gosling, is a HAM! I can still pick him up for cuddles, even at 9 months old, and he LOVES having his picture taken. And you cant give anyone else attention when he is around or he gets sulky, lol

Goat_Walker, that is one beautiful boy. Thank you. Those are such good tips. I know I keep saying it... but I AM SO EXCITED!

Newgoosegirl, LOL I love my flock, but they aren't sleeping in my bed.

One thing to note, being overly familiar with your geese, ganders in particular, can lead to trouble when the hormones kick in.

Get Holderread's "the book of geese" and read up.
