Thanks Will! I really have had fun with these gals. I already decided that I will do again next year and use the pen I put them in last night-this way I dont have to rebuild something-after the meaties are out of there-it will be empty until next Spring-so it will be all good to go for the next batch -Im thinking 15-20 Freedoms and 25 CX this way I have half in a pen and half not and then keep a few for breeding:)

Katy??? do you meaties follow you around like your their momma? Mine do and it saddens me:-( Last night putting all of them to bed they all followed me and Dh saw this and Said how are you going to do the deed? they think your their momma? Well didnt that just stick a bee in my bonnet-I mean I will do it but now I have this thing in my head-Im just going to make PC do the "deed" and Ill process i guess

Gavin-are you going to process chickens for people like you said? The traveling unit??? hmmm---nice plucker-wish I could afford one or justify one:-( if I was doing large quantities like you have in mind I would but like now with only 26 birds-not feasable--not even for 100 if I had them...There was one for 399$ and it looked good. Id love to make one and I probably will seeing as my DH is very good about rescuing items -he's a contractor and clears out alot of stuff and winds up saving alot of wood for me:) Im looking for a washing machine I can build my own red-neck plucker barrel:) It would be worth it if I only had to spend 200$ or so:) Hey that reminds me will you send me a bill for the hamburg and such-I can pay you ahead through paypal???

I wish I had the money for it too! Since my buddy and I plan to process a few hundred next year we are investing in the equipment. We both hate our decent paying day jobs so we are going to spend all the money we can on farming equipment so that when we are poor farmers we will have most of what we need. I'm still looking at a tow behind cooler though, but that is more for beef and pork.

I'll talk to my buddy. We dont mind leting people we know borrow it, people we dont know, rent it for a nominal fee.

Once I have all the equipment I wouldn't mind processing them for people. The traveling units are pretty expensive, but if small farming keeps taking off maybe I'll put something together. Maybe for now I'll process for beer.

My dad doesn't have pay pal. No prob if you dont want to pay for it all at once. How many pounds again?

I believe it was 35-40 lbs:) If you want to pm me the price I can make sure I have it totally set aside when you come:) You do not have to let me borrow your wizzbang-I would totally rent it:) I know you come to Lake Placid to deliver meat so I can meet you there to make it easier. Im certainly not going to need it this year seeing as I have such a small amount to do but it wouldnt break my heart if you brought it to "test" it out at chickenstock...LOL

Shoot Westport is only an hour away right? I could even make a trip and we could have a processing party next year! those decent paying day jobs keep me afloat haha I love my job but sometimes ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

OK folks tell me if Im on the wrong or right path

MY SCALE CAME!!! so I immediately opened it and ran down to the meatie coop!

I grabbed about 15 of them and they all ranged between 1.45 and 2.10 lbs-how is that for 4 weeks old tomorrow-also, my feed store ran ot of their regular food until Friday so I had no choice but to buy a bag of crumbles-medicated-made for broilers and cornish-cost 5$ more a bag dang it! on my 3rd bag of food too! is that normal for 26 meaties? Well I can probably say Im not officially on my 3rd bag except that "their bag" of feed got put into the others food bin-same food but I was keeping the bags I was feeding the meaties seperate so I could see exactly how much I was going through. So I can really say by thursday I would have been dipping into the 3rd bag anyhoo--anyone with suggestions-the new bag is 22% protein too much? to little??
