My first (sort of) two chicks

Years ago I roomed with two latinos who had a backyard flock. I ended up adopting a beautiful Rhode Island Red hen (which was subsequently stolen by said roommates when the lease ended). Now, three years later, I just leaped in with both feet and got two chicks (intendes as pets). Just yesterday I saw signs that one is surely a Barred Rock but the other is a mystery, perhaps an Orpington. I have no idea how old they are and they came from separate straight runs. From what I have read online, the zebra looks to be female based on the head spot. The other is still far too young to tell (in fact, I had thought my former RIR was a cockerel and I named it Santiago; at about 8 weeks it was clearly a pullet so I changed the name to Santiaga). So I know the sex is never a certainty until later on, but any help with the breed, sex, and ages would be much appreciated. Please and thank you in advance.

Welcome to BYC! They are very pretty chicks! Do you think they are the same age? If so, one could be a bantam.

I have no reason to believe they are the same age. I do know they were separate runs and brownie's plumage does not seem as mature as the zebra so my gut is that brownie is younger, perhaps 10-14 days old.

Looks like you have a barred rock and a rir. Sexing can be done as early as 6-8 weeks depending on the breed and feather growth post pics again when they start to get more feathers.

OMG, another RIR would be so delightful to replace the one that was taken. Her temperament was great. Per your suggestion that it could be RIR, I googled and was surprised to find a photo of a 14 day-old RIR with identical plumage as mine. So that seems to have solved the age question as well. I never would have thought that such a non-red chick could become such a beautifully red adult. Here's a pic of the beautiful Santiaga back in March/April 2016.
