My food won't fit in a box

The most surprising "food" i saw at the store lately was Squeezeable Applesauce in a singke serving packet. That way you can get your "fruit" serving "on the go" ok what? First you can just take any cup with a lid and straw and "drink" applesauce ( i like to drink it) lol but 2 havent these ppl heard of Apple Juice? Oh, wait. Juice is bad cuz its high in calories. We MUST drink diet sodas. So i being the suspicious type look at the ingrediants. Applesauce in a jar, back on isle 12 ingrediants are; apples, water, absorcic acid. Apples appear 4th in prepackaged slime. Ppl just have No idea do they?
On another note, my gf is a vegatarian, me too, so i asked her if she can cook or if she lives out of the freezer isle. She says shes too busy too cook.

boy is she missing out! I m gonna fix that.

I love the pick ur own groceries! That should be a t shirt

I'm lucky enough to have a DW that loves to cook from "scratch" (is that a PA Dutch term?). Our garden isn't near ready this year but we have farmer's markets where we can pick up veggies and meats. DW also likes to jar red beets, pickles, beans, jelly, etc. Even thou the kids would like to eat at McDonald's it rarely happens and I'm sure they appreciate the home cooked meals we get. DW always makes enough for my lunch at work the next day.

I grew up with dinner on the table every night at 7pm, and had to help make it. My husband grew up with whatever popped out of the microwave at 5pm. LOL He told me a couple of days ago when we were dirty and gross from moving compost into the garden area... "Babe, thanks for being who you are, I never would have done this other wise".

Aaaww!

Last night we had egg and biscuit sandwhiches for dinner. Night before that was Amish grass fed Sirloin steaks and garlic potatoes. California garlic, not Chinese. That's important, right? I buy garlic when I see it on sale, mince it myself, and jar it.

We tried making our own pizza but we're so far removed from Italy it isn't funny. So we order out for that when the mood strikes. But we have a produce store around the corner that's family owned, and we'll spend $30 there, then pop over to the grocery store for coffee and what not.

But yeah, the number of people who claim not to have time to cook... it's easy. When you buy your onions, chop those suckers up and bag them in ziplock bags. When Tuesday rolls around, grab a bag and add it to whatever you're making. Do your prep work when you're not busy, and you can shave off the most time consuming prep time. I rinse, chop, and store, ready to cook my own "premade" meals from scratch. Biscuit dough stores too, don't need a can of poison to make doughboy biscuits. Make a pile of it, store it, lunch for the next day. Frozen and ready to go like everyone elses.

I'll take pre chopped onion, garlic, green pepper, ect and pre-cook it while I have some organic tomato sauce (the cheap boring one with nothing added) and then add all those veggies, some wheat noodles, and ta-da, pasta in less than 20 minutes. Since I had everything ready to already, most of the time cooking was waiting on water to boil.

Last nights supper isn't worth bragging about, but tonight it's baked fish, cucumber salad (cukes out of my garden), yellow squash (again, out of the garden) and whatever else may inspire me.

I got to admit the DH does most of the cooking, but he really likes to cook. For dinner last night we had baked salmon, fresh asperagus, and sweet potatos, for lunch today he made chicken salad and for dinner tonight he is making home made pizza.

I about lost my eyeballs when by the walmart checkout lanes, there were HUGE HUGE boxes on pallets with pouches that were juices; BUT in big bold letters it says "ALCOHOL ALREADY IN IT!"

oiy! really??

now with my home based business; I am on the road a TON; almost non-existent to be home during the Nov/Dec months...
I have no clue what my kiddos eat (as gramma & the pastors wife are hired out to help me with them when I'm not here in the eves/weekends)...

and I unfortunately live on Fast food during that time, mostly salads from McD's as its about the only thing I can eat besdies fruit on the road...

I do a TON of canning (see: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=504551 )

and I am finishing up canning dried beans for our use over the fall/winter...because I just dont have time to rehydrate and cook everyday
so canning is the best way to go and is SO much cheaper than buying them in the cans!)

I do have to say; that most everyone I see in the grocery stores have a TON of prepackaged meals..and my friends who are overweight (NOTHING against overweight
ppl, as I used to be one; I spent the last 2 yrs losing 60lbs!!) who complain that they just cant get rid of their weight...but yet they are eating all this high sodium, high fat
prepackaged stuff...EVERY MEAL....I've tried to teach them how to can or cook better..they just dont want to..

I have even lost a few friends because they say I'm not fun anymore now that i've lost weight...its not that IMO; its just that I dont go out to eat all the time like I used too..

I have seen already prepared mashed potatoes in the freezer...I just chuckled...
and the other things that make me chuckle is the frozen pancakes..or french toast sticks...
in the winter before my busy season; I'll make a TON of pancakes and freeze them..takes all of maybe an hour for a couple hundred lol...and I spend about $8 for it..
then the kiddos can pop a few out and defrost...

however last night...I had a McD's salad w/grilled chicken..no dressing...and a banana and apple...

then I caved and had salsa/chips lol
