My Geese are bullys!!

American mom your females aren't pure embdens but a cross which i can say when they are older and the reason your babies attack your husband is only one reason and that is, you always probely fed them let them out put them in talk to them etc. while your husband might do it once in a while and the geese see you as a body guard and a mother and your husband is strange to them haha Oh and they know your voice too.
I've the same problem at my home with my cross and he attacks my friends but not the maid which also the feeds the babiesand brings them out and talks to them and only attacks the people they rarely see :)

Ok, I understand, I cannot imagine them getting much bigger!! They are big already, and they are so cause of so much enjoyment, right now I am trying to teach them not to nibble on me, its starting to hurt (they can pinch fat pretty good :) ) Its so cute when they step back and look at me when I point my finger and say not, they used to nibble my finger but they have stopped doing that..
And yes, although he has always interacted with them it is me that has spent the most time with them (someone in this house has to work) I tried to tell him that, told him to just got out and sit down with some leaf lettuce every evening and let them get that time with him without me around. Maybe it will change, he really wants them to like him which is funny, he is such a tough guy!! whats funny is our GK's are only here once a week and they love the boys, will eat out of their hands and such.. I think its the difference in the deepness of his voice, but what do I know.

And I understood you perfectly, In going through some of my post here I can tell which ones I try to do on my smart phone

Well this makes me feel some better, They do a fair amount of walking up and down a hill here lots of exercise so maybe that's why Sam isn't carrying the lobes, They don't get alot of extra goodies except in winter I feed whole corn along with their FF. After Missy came off the nest her lobes were gone too, but she is getting her's back I don't know how though those goslings keep her on the move. lol.
Yes, but she´s eating now, so she´ll gain her weight.
Ok, mine range on grass ( they have about 1/3 acre) but I also give them Flock Raiser ( feed that the chickens and turkeys get) is that too much??...

The grey, Rio has the bulges right above his legs, when Serv said Pantaloons that's almost exactly what they look like. way more prominent than the white ones.

Also, they were out all day yesterday and all was well (atleast the Turkeys were still alive )

Do true Embden have grey spots also? Both whites have just a tad of grey on their backs.. If they are all from the same clutch should they be able to mate?

Oh my husbands wants to know why they don't like him?? He has been there also since hatching and has always been there to care for them right along with me, they will not come to him for treats, if he gets close they run away, if he sits they steer clear, our daughter who goes out once a week they run right to ... He is very frustrated, he loves having them as much as I do.. I have tried to stand away so they cant see me, he has tried giving them dandelions (its really like chocolate to them) but nothing works... LOL ( he is such a tough guy)

Poor hubby...telll him patience...just sit there for ages with treats. And sit there some more...takes time.
I think animals in general prefer women. Even with my hubby, he´s out there all the time with them, but they still keep their distance from him. My hubby isn´t bothered, and certainly can´t be bothered, to win them over.
Glad the turkeys survived.

Lyd it's odd but some just have it and some don't but some are just bigger then others but a pure embden female must always have lobes
I think it may be the difference between the showing breeds and the backyard eating breeds....like the toulouse. You have the ideal, and then the others that most of us have...

My goose acts the same with dh, my gander who was hatched here isn't quite as stand offish but Missy my Toulouse hisses at dh when he comes around. Might be voice connection because when I was into dog training we always told or men training their dogs to use a higher pitch when praising because the dogs respond to it better. Glad to hear Turkeys made it through the day unscathed. lol And some Embdens do have some grey in their feathering We have a member who got some Embdens from a hatchery and those girls had some grey on their wing tips. And yes they can mate. Try to stop them.

well, maybe that's a plus, they at least don't hiss at him
lau.gif
maybe there is hope... Yep, turkeys are fine and Geese are keeping their distance from the Momma hens with baby's. other chickens scatter, they like to bully them but that's their own fault, even the rooster wont go after the geese but move out of there way... Pretty funny because out main Roo is a very very large Blue Orpington, he could if he wanted be boss of the whole flock but he gives way to those noisy honking creatures
big_smile.png

Ok, another question... Will they be able to fly?? Should we clip wings? Our neighbors wouldn't appreciate the geese in the gardens

I doubt they would go far unless on a hill with the wind at their back
lol.png
but to be on the safe side you might want to clip one wing. i clipped my Toulouse gooses wing because she is light enough to take off and we have a mt river down below us I don't want her to end up at.

Ok, I might go ahead and do that, now that they are out with everyone else they have a lot more space and yesterday all three were running and flapping and testing...Made me consider it...

They always did it when I changed their water (I call it the happy dance, running in circles with wings spread) but yesterday they were full out flapping and made me think of geese trying to get speed to take off . I mean we have an acre and if they stayed here it wouldn't bother me, but we have folks on either side of us and our geese already caused us to replant most of our green beans once

Brazil and miss Lyd i reckon American moms goslings will grow much bigger what do you think by my looks they still look small haha
