My geese are scared of ducklings

They are never alone together and have very limited playtime when they are in the same area. The geese honestly don't mind them at all, except when the ducklings follow them (which scares them).

Here's why I think they are scared of ducklings....

(One of our ducks attacking our goose when she was a gosling)

They got over it pretty quickly and now the ducks and the geese are BFF.

If they are BFFs why did you post this thread? Didn't you want help fixing the problem? Now you're saying they'll get over it?

Oh yep that would do it lol..the duckling biting the goose that is... The same thing happened to my gander by a BR chick when they were little... I thought my gander had PTSD the way he would never let a chick remotely NEAR him, and he hated the BRs especially lol... That hen made a LOT of enemies lol, a runner is scared of her too...and my roo... Anyway, they get along ok with the older ducks, so I don't see why after the duckling start to LOOK more like ducks and less like torturous monsters lol, the geese will relax... Territory during mating and puberty is a whole new level, but for now, it does seem like the geese are just literally, scared. Big weenies lol :p

It's pretty funny because now that they are grown, the geese are in charge of the yard. But every time the gander pushes the duck who attacked them as a duckling away from a piece of watermelon, she walks away and waits a minute or so. Then she runs back, bites him on the butt and then runs for her life. It's hilarious.

Our geese are very tame, though. We have several friends with geese who cannot believe how friendly and non-aggressive ours are. I hope it holds through mating season next year.

Everyone is getting along now. The ducklings have stopped following the geese -- they follow each other, instead -- so all of our ducks and geese are happy to hang out together.

Yep. They are very spoiled. We just dug this pond for them and are going to start putting guppies in it for them, and I've ordered a bunch of aquatic plants that they will eat in the first day, no doubt. I was more interested in having a "natural" pond, so we will see if that works out. They do have more than enough room to run around, but they all prefer to sit by their giant mud puddle.

I really enjoy the story about your ducklings vs geese. Shows that memories of what happenrd to young poultry stays with them when they are grown. Just like kids being bullied at school. They don't forget, no matter how old/big they get.
