My girl Mildred - ninja duck

Mildred got her bath. She had a blast! Got water everywhere of course! Scab on top of foot is open and bottom softened substantially. Most importantly Mildred got to act like a duck. She preened and splashed and just did ducky things. Never thought I would be so pleased to seem someone trash my bathroom LOL Foot still looks good tonight. I am hoping......

Cleaned sick bay, new bedding , new poultice, some goodies, and she is "tucked in" for the night.

Off to clean up the mess....silly duck.

Just think of it as a pre rinse for your chorox cleanup! I do this stuff too, so don't feel bad. Her being happy will help her as much as anything. Like people, ducks are more than the function and presence of their parts. They are a whole being, and the Good Lord means for them to be the joyful happy splasher that they are. :)

I appreciate your letting me know how Mildred is doing. Hopefully any remaining uck and nastyness will come out with her poultice today. They are rather weird and black when you lift them, but quite effective. Other pulling roots are Iris (and they also have some antibacterial properties) and cattail roots (but not until late summer and fall).

I'm guessing your not getting bitten nearly so much now. You are on treatment 3 now?

yay !!!!

Foot still looks pretty good. Still solid scab on ball of foot even after hour in tub and poultice over night. Top of foot is closed over but no scab. Still doesn't appear to be any swelling. (5 days in from last plug!) She's been pretty quiet this morning.

Poultice applied. Will see how it looks tonight.

After tonight, pack area with dry bandage, to see if she's oozing or weeping from the foot. If its been five days since anti-biotics, and her foot has improved since you removed the nasty plug, she may be on the mend. It will still take her several days for the foot to heal sufficiently to prevent infectioin from the ground, but if lack of swelling continues, I'd definately let her bath again (if you can handle it), and pack with cotten or other suitable dry material. The dry cotten will draw out any ozzing or pus, if her injury is still draining. We need to see if it is, and what color the drainage is. A little brown/pink/red is ok, yellow is transitional (good to bad or from bad to better), green would indicate there is still a porblem.

Come on Mildred!

I like your avatar too!

I've hardly done anything but type a bit, its you and Mildred that have done all the work. She is a lovely girl. Khaki Campbell, right? Hopefully she'll be all on the mend, and out hanging with the other ducks again. Maybe I'll have to buy some fertile eggs next year, and have a few of Mildreds girls in my flock!
