My goose tried to drown one of my ducks. .

Heh, yeah, sorry about the two threads. I wasn't sure where people would be browsing this morning so I went post crazy.
No problem, it´s a more sure way of getting your questions answered! What do you think? could your goose just have been trying to mate with the duck? If so, then that´s likely to be fixed by getting her a friend. They can 'mate' with each other instead of the ducks.

It could be that she was trying to mate her at first (confused goose?) but then she just stopped and sat on top of her. The duck had gone so still I thought maybe I was too late.
I separated her for now. Luckily we have another yard that will work for a while. I don't think it would go over well with my family if I brought home another goose to keep her company though and I dont want to make her live in the other yard for a long time by her self. I'm going to have to talk to the rest of the house and see what they think..but probably I'll have to find her a new home :(

Well that seems the sensible thing to do, then. But I don´t think now that she was being aggressive. ducks will stay still for ages when being mated, but then you probably know that. My drakes seem to be drowning my ducks, but they always survive it! I do believe your goose was trying to mate the duck. All normal, so if you can find her a nice home with other geese, she´ll be fine.

Thanks Livin, That she may not be being overly aggressive makes me feel a little better about it. I'll miss her but it probably is the most sensible thing.

Let us know where she goes, won´t you?
I will, for now I haven't heard from anyone on my local thread and I dont want to post her to craigslist.. I still hate the idea of giving her up. If by some weird happen chance someone local is selling another Buff Goose I might get her a mate and just hope that my household is okay with it.

I'll keep you posted though. Thank you so much for your help!

Well, you don´t have to get a male to keep her company. another goose would be fine. Would be calmer, too. 2 geese (females) can be great friends. And you get to make lots of omelettes!

That could be good. :) I'm feeling better about this than selling her for sure. I just hope my household doesn't loose it if I find her a friend. What ever happens I'll let you know.

:D Thank you!

We're trying to raise 6 mallard ducks (about 3 months old now). I was unaware that a pair of geese would take up occupancy of our pond. The geese have mated and hatched off 6 goslings. The gander has ran our ducks away from the pond. Fortunately we had a smaller pond for them. Unfortunately the gander has drowned 2 of our ducks. I hate to shoot the gander. The gander thinks he runs
the entire property I guess. The ducks don't bother the geese. They run when they see them coming. But when the geese want to occupy the ducks territory. Look out.

This is natural behavior the gander feels your ducks are a threat to his mate and goslings, I'm sorry this has happened but I hope you can keep your ducks safe with out killing the gander who is only protecting his family.
