OK repeat after me It's just CHICKEN not a kid It's just a CHICKEN not a kid and no matter how much I like it I'll still eat it .

I'd rather just not try culling for the first time on a roo that had a name and used to be a pet. I am a wuss like that.

Anyways..... Temp and humidity are perfect... 101.5 on all the thermometers that will read parts of a degree. Humidity is 31%. I set the candler down on 3 other eggs when I was taking pics of the clear, and they look fantastic.

@WVduckchick how did your hatch go? Good, I hope?

What a coincidence, I just had a minute and was going to tell you.

26 of 31 quail hatched. Lost one quail that had splay leg, got flipped over on its back, and must have been too close to the heat, and died before I saw it.

6 of 8 silkie/cochin hatched. One still in the bator, pipped, but I don't think it will make it. Pipped halfway down the shell and its malpositioned. Another one pipped the wrong end, but made it out unassisted, but has a bum leg. Hopefully I can nurse it and not have to cull it.
Otherwise, they are gorgeous!

Here are my favorites of each, at this point.

I think this is a tuxedo quail. They are all sold and will be gone this evening and Wednesday evening.

AND... I have a customer wanting Lavender Orpingtons, so I'll be setting some this weekend for April 18/19 hatch date! (might as well throw in some sebright and OEGB eggs with them, right?

They're so cute. Yes, a hatch wouldn't be complete without OEGB eggs, eh?

Now I really can't wait until the 26th.

Oh yes... OEGB eggs especially.. Wouldn't do to waste fertile eggs, right?

Then when the 26th gets close, you'll be figuring what goes in next too!

Only reason I hesitate on the OEGB's is that I didn't get the breeds separated until last week (or maybe the week before?) and I saw both the sebright males and the OEGB males mating both sets of girls. So I should probably wait until I'm more certain they should be pure again. But I could just take a chance

I already know what goes in.... Everything!
Kidding. Maybe more bantams, EE's, or I might be able to get other breeds local.

Worst thing that could happen is you get some awful cute mutts.

Just set the candler on the eggs while adding water, (bad, bad Bubbles..) and they're all alive and well. I can't get over how cool it is to see them wiggle.

No matter how many times I do this, it will always be thrilling......
