My Hatching Journey: the Adventures of a Complete Newbie

Biggest rule I have learned is once you know all the rules, then you can break as many as is prudent. Rather backwards, huh? When you think you know them all, you learn there aren't many.

See you are a good student ! but you are also the teacher . How fast you've learned what is most important . Here is another quick lesson incubating changes throughout the year. and each hatch must be adapted or adjusted to the environment .

I've noticed that already. It is much warmer outside on average than my last try, and the thermostat is a fifth turn lower.

You also learn by breaking the rules, just why the rules were developed in the first place.

Candle all the time to break the rules, and your hatch rates can go down due to lowering average temperature, humidity, bacterial contamination, etc. Then you might realize that staying out of the bator really is a good idea!

Just a theory, what do I know.

Exactly. Hence the words "as is prudent".

Candle results 3/12

11/12 live and nice veins, #12 is a clear. I left it in anyway.

I saw movement in 3+ of them. Is it really possible at this stage in development??
It was moving back and forth slightly, shifting the veins as it went, and getting darker and lighter.. That was so amazing... One of Jace's moved, and the other has good veins. I'm thrilled!!

Very nice!!! :clap congrats! Isn't it amazing?!?!

My hatch continues. 23 of 31 quail are out. (19 in the brooder, 4 still in the bator) 3 pips on the silkie/cochin eggs, so the 4 quail have to stay in there for a while. 20 hours since the first silkie pip, so I'm starting to get concerned...
