Okay thank you. Will she poop normally again after this?I would use 1/2 cup (4 ounces) of Epsom salts per gallon of warm water. Online you will find 1/2 ounce per gallon to 2 cups per gallon. I would lubricate the vent with the coconut oil or vaseline after cleaning off the dried tissue, and just go ahead and puch it back inside. Hold it there for a couple of minutes. You just want to get the pink tissue back inside, so it doesn’t dry out.
This is her primary feed. They eat only a little of it in the morning. I didn't know about chicken pelletsI've been following this thread. I'm impressed by your resolve! Speedy is lucky to have a good chicken parent! I am so glad she is doing better!
Question: Is that your primary feed? Does she get any pellet? I ask because I'm not sure that is intended to be primary feed. It looks like scratch to me. I've read that too much scratch can contribute to vent problems. Scratch is chicken candy, and I've read that it should only be given occasionally.
Scratch is like candy, but since the OP lives in a different part of the world, sometimes commercial feeds are not available, are hard to get or even expensive. Since a lot of the hen's diet is coming from foraging, what she is getting is probably o.k. as long as there's quality forage (bugs, plants, etc.) available. Plus she is supplementing with egg, yogurt, meat, veggies, etc., to help round out the diet.I've been following this thread. I'm impressed by your resolve! That makes complete sense. If they forage primarily, then a bit of scratch wouldn't hurt. I'm learning all the time! Love BYC for that!!!It sounds like you are doing everything right.
I would use the directions that eggcessive gave you regarding the espom salts. Hopefully after soaking, the poop/urates will loosen up and come off easily.
Any exposed tissue keep that moist with the coconut oil or vaseline.
Good idea adding egg or some type of protein to her diet. Keep us posted.

That sounds like chicken heaven! She eats a bit of this, then pecks at the grass and likes cathing ants by scratching at out plant's roots
It is ! They free range all day long !That sounds like chicken heaven!![]()
You read my mind!Or if it doesn't go back in, the vet can stitch across the vent so that the prolapse doesn't happen again, but she can still poop. I've read of this being done in cows.
