haha! Well, I think Speedy will be a great Mom. I hope all the eggs are fertile and develop so you can have some babies! How exciting

That should also shut down her own egg laying and hopefully give her insides a chance to firm up, and not prolapse any more when she resumes laying. I would think?

Okay guys so speedy has been sitting for almost a week. But she has not come out her cage once. Her nest is a but smelly. I'm thinking of taking her out for a break and cleaning her cage? Give it new straw and so on?

Soo peoples - I took out speedy and let her take a break. She immediatly started dust bathing and so on. I cleaned all the eggs with a damp cloth. And then i saw that one of the eggs had a crack. I took the opportunity to candle all the eggs with the flashlight. All the eggs had veins and the little dark dot. They eye i think? But then when i candled the cracked egg, i saw the airbubble, but underneath it was black. I saw the chick in there with the eye, but no veins. It was just floating around there. The egg was stinking a lot and the shell was starting to get soft. I took out that one egg, and put the others back. I cleaned her nest out and put some new straw in. She was getting upset and hissing at me for touching her eggs, but eventually got over it. She also made her broody poop. I was sooo scared that she was going to get the prolapse again, because of the big poop. But everything went fine. I was a bit runny, but it's been almost 40°C here for the past couple of days. I always keep a small container of water with her in the cage. After her dustbath and eating and making a big ol poop, speedy went back up and sat in her eggs
I am sad that we lost a chick, but rather sooner than later

Sorry that you lost one egg, but it's great the others are developing!
Sounds like Speeding is doing well too

This morning we found mites or something on the rooster. It was in tge straw, but i did not know it then. So i places that mite straw in speedys cage. So nowshe had mites too. But we found Karbadust and sprinkled that in them. Its safe for birds, cats, dogs and plants. Tomorrow we will put in new straw from the petshop
Tommorow we are also saying goodbye to our rooster. I'll miss him alot !!

Hi guys ! Our chicks came out a few days ago. Tbey are all doing reat. Any tips on caring for chicks?

We also expanded our cage. So they have lots of room.

And good news. Our rooster is staying until thr chicks grow up. Then he will be given away
