My Hen has Sour Crop!

Mine has it too. I did the ACV but now it appears to be thicker fluid coming out.

I massaged her crop during the week and a lot of foul smelling fluid came out. She is picking at food but seems quite weak and has lost a lot of weight. I have separated her with another hen for company.

She isnt roosting of a night either. Just laying on the floor. Crop felt harder last night... not fluidy... so i massaged again.

This morning she is the same but making funny movements with her head... like she is trying to be sick?

That’s great but It might be a bit full though because I realized I left their food in the coop but they don’t really like to eat that they usually just wait for me to open their coop in the morning so they can forage
I’m going to try to wake up earlier to check her crop before the sun comes up because when it dose i’m Sure she will go and eat the later feed in their thank you so much for answering this late I’m just so worried for her she just started laying and she has been laying for 4 days straight it would be horrible if anything happened to her
Don't panic just yet:hugs
She looks quite perky in the photo. Do your checks and let us know what you find.

@poppy86 I'm sorry your hen is not doing well.
If she has sour smelling fluid coming out, then she has sour crop. The head movement is probably trying to adjust her crop.

You need to try to determine why the crop is not emptying - whether it's impacted or just slow.
Here's a couple of very good articles for you to read - give those a look, then let us know which one you think it might be:

Hi guys. My only egg laying hen has a really big crop. We are 99% sure that it’s sour crop. Do you have any tips to get rid of it. Here’s a picture it might be kind of blurry but you can see her really big crop.

Aww so sorry for ur gurl
Okay let me know how's she feel like ?
Like water ballon or just squishy like pudding inside her crop
Is her beak stinking like vinegar ?

And how's her poop.looks like ? Watery ?

We can treat it successfully with some.fennel tea in earlier stages where there's no smell in the beak.
Fennel seeds tea is proven for slow crop

Also withholding her food for few hours and check the size of crop in every 2-3 hour give her some granite grit so it help breaking food that's unavailable to grind

Do u have some kefir yogurt I've read it helps in sour crop cause it contains too many good bacteria

Thanks for the advice! Her beak does smell sour but, that might just be the poop on her feet. Her crop is now decreasingly smaller it’s squishy but also filled with a bit of food. Her chest feathers in the picture do make the crop look bigger. So today I think I’ll get kefir yogurt in the market.

Was the crop empty this morning before she had anything to eat/drink?

If you are checking her after she has had access to food and water, you will not get an accurate feeling of crop function.
