I have recently lost my pet Roo that I loved dearly and a month later I lost my favorite hen. So I only have 1 little white cochin hen left. They are house chickens, so I started hearing this
strange noise coming from my hen. She is crowing. I had heard this happens but had never seen it. It's too funny.
I guess she is taking over for the absence of her companions.

A hen trying to crow sure makes it tough to determine gender of a young bird for a new chicken owner. Just when I'm sure I've got a hen, a little crow comes out.

I have 4 hens, and was very shocked when one of them started crowing.

I think she is responding to the rooster crows she hears from the neighbours roos.

I am in a near panic.....one of my hens started crowing this morning scaring the crap out of all my other girls and some of my neighbors. NOT COOL AT ALL. How or can I force change in that behavior? I cannot legally have chickens but all my neighbors are good with it provided I have no roo.....okay and provided I have no hen making the noise of a roo....what, if anything can I do to make her stop immediately before I am discovered by further away neighbors, get reported, have fines, and be forced to get rid of my flock that I adore and do not want to get rid of? HELP HELP HELP please!!!

I had a hen in the bathroom recovering from a prolapse. One morning dh and I heard what sounded like a crow.It definitely was not a egg song.

I don't think you can do much about the crowing,or any egg songs. Sometimes my hens are louder after an egg lay than the rooster. If I were you I would just show people the hens, and that you have no rooster. You can not be required to shut the hens up,and if one of them crows well therer is nothing you can do about it.

That sucks, but same for me I live in a rural area in Arizona and the first rule is no poultry. Its like i'm committing a sin.
I have my crowing hen in the house so no one can hear her. I have no clue how to stop the behavior other than getting a roo which wont help the noise
issue. I have parrots also and when one of them starts making horrible noises i use a squirt bottle. I give her a little spritz and it works every time.
I wouldn't soak the hen but maybe tell her NO and give her a little spritz, chickens are smarter than people give them credit for. My little hen i just lost would step up on my hand
just like the parrots. So cute, i miss her so much.
