My hen is not eating oyster shells.

Hi guys! I have a Rhode island red hen who has laid about 7 shelless eggs. Today I went to tractor supply and got a bag of oyster shells, but my hen is not interested in them. I tried giving it plain, mixed in with food but she wouldn't eat it. Is there any way I can give it to her for her to eat? thank you.

thank you. I have tried that before, i gave her crushed egg shells from her own eggs, but it didnt really help with fixing the shelless egg. But i will try again.

My chickens took a while to take to the oyster shells, but they ate them eventually. I’ve heard that they can be too big/hard for some chickens. I read that Scratch and Peck brand oyster shell was better because it’s really thin and flaky. I use all their other products and love them, and can say their oyster shells are great

Try crushing it down to a powder (or sift out the powder in the bag) and mixing it with a little wet feed.
