I was feeling so depressed because of winter, SAD, and other things outside of my control when God decided to gift me with my first eggs!! I am over the moon. I have a question. Are the hens mad that I took the eggs? I gathered the eggs and I just cleaned out the coop because one of the eggs laid had not quite formed a solid shell and the yolk needed to be cleaned up. Anyhow, the girls are really really vocal! They sound like they are protesting or upset. Up until now they are relatively quiet and I am wondering if they are upset that their eggs are gone. Thanks!

ok, it was this morning when I found them and took them and then this afternoon I cleaned the cop and they got all loud and disheveled. There is no roo so I know these are unfertilized. I just thought they were instinctually worried about the missing eggs. Thanks! I can't wait to make the eggs. :)

They were probably disheveled from the cleaning haha! Congrats on the eggs though.

Newly laying pullets are quite vocal!
I had one batch of pullets that were so loud I closed the windows so I could work on the phone.
How old are they?
Congrats!

FYI.....semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.
Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.
Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).
Age in weeks or months is always a good thing to note.

Cleaning their coop upset my pullets today! They yelled and yelled at me. But it was a balmy 25 degrees so I took advantage of the "warm" spell. Plus, only one of them laid today so they deserve to have their feathers ruffled a bit. And, no, mine have no attachment to their eggs at all.

They are probably just telling you they laid them and want praise. :yesss::yesss:
