2 of my hens started laying this week should I put a light in there. Also what is to cold for them and when should they have a heat lamp. I'm in Texas so we get all kinds of weather.

Well I had a heat lamp on them when we had a hard freeze and it's been in the 30-40's still but was wondering if I should turn it off and put a light on. It's a open coop.

They don't need a heat lamp. They just need a coop to get out of the wind if there is any. Where I live it's below zero a lot this time of year and I don't even shut the coop door. it's pretty much common sense to provide your animals with shelter though. 30's and 40's are not cold at all for a chicken unless it's maybe a nakedneck or something.

If they're laying fine, they don't need a light for that either.

Great thanks for all yalls help. I don't know what I would do without the forum. So I just learned my 3 hen layed her 1 egg today now I have 3-4 hens laying
