My hens are trespassing!

I have 5 hens who have been busted for terrorizing a fearful adult neighbor by looking at her and maybe stepping accross the property line. Must I fence them in?! Or wait for the ordinance violation? Wow!

I'd personally be fencing them in. Letting them free-range is often going to cause trouble/loss eventually. It's safer for your girls that way! They don't really sound like they're causing any actual 'trouble', but I wouldn't be waiting around to get in trouble over my chickens. Best of luck!

Containing your animals is part of responsible stewardship, so yes if they are leaving your property you need to take corrective action.

Why would you not take action to contain them now, rather than waiting to get in trouble for an ordinance violation? It’s possible you could lose your privilege to keep chickens in town.

There are some people who have a true phobia of chickens or any type of bird. Your neighbor could be one of them.

I would hate terribly if you neighbors shot your chickens. There are some people who see chickens as pests. Please build a fence.

Personally. I love my chickens. And that includes all the responsibilities that go along with taking good care of them, feeding them, keeping their environment clean, keeping MY environment clean.... They are MY CHICKENS, you know? Even the less-than-glamorous parts of it.

But oh man! ... I’d hate it if I had a neighbor who allowed their chickens to just come over, hang out, and crap everywhere on MY PROPERTY.
TRUST ME, we’d be having “conversation” over this.

No different than someone’s dog coming over to poop on my lawn or driveway or porch... see what I’m saying?
