I have a robust Black Copper Marans that has always been healthy as a horse, but all of a sudden she's without a doubt feeling poorly. Pale comb/wattles (they're the same size as usual, just off-colored), extreme lethargy, ceasing egg production, and rather sunken eyes. Haven't had a chance to examine her poop for worms, either. Pretty sure it's not upper respiratory. Will post pics as soon as possible. Any idea what could be wrong with her based on the given information? I want to know if worming or even antibiotics are needed at this point.

Also, my Olive Egger, Elle McFeatherson, just died yesterday after similar mystery symptoms. Only difference was some feather loss, much more energy, and strange frizzled-looking plumage around her neck.

Thanks in advance,
~Alex :)

I am wishing her luck. Is she acting strange at all? Maybe comb turning blue? I had that problem with my buff orpington and I think it could of been worms.

Dehydration and the summer heat may be causing her problems. There also could be a reproductive problem, such as internal laying or egg yolk peritonitis. I would give her some chopped egg or a little tuna along with her usual layer feed. Putting some electrolytes in her water, or giving some Gatorade or Pedialyte for a couple of days might help. If a local vet could check a few fresh droppings for cocci and worms, that would rule out those possibilities. Check her skin around her vent and her neck for signs of lice or mites.
